Clarke Chronicler's Resurrection

 We  were  going  to  Buxton  but  Poole's  Cavern  was  all  booked  up. There  was  space  available  at  Treak  Cliff  Cavern, Castleton  so  we  chose  to  go  there  instead. We  bought  GM  Wayfarer  tickets  as these  are  eligible  for  travel  to  Hope. Our  first  train  was  slightly  delayed  at  Bolton  but  we  still  had  plenty  of  time  to  spare  in  Manchester  so  we  had  breakfast  at  The  Mill  in  the  food  court  at  Piccadilly  station.  The  Sheffield  train  was  much  fuller  than  I  expected , most  of  whom  disembarked  at  Edale.  We...

 With  restrictions  on  overnight  stays  lifted, I  chose  the  cheapest  option, two  nights  in  the  Travelodge  at  Woolley  Edge  services  ( southbound ) on  the  M1. This  allowed  filming  at  two  Yorkshire  castles. We  set  off  about  an  hour  after  Simon  returned  from  school. We  drove  through  Rochdale, Littleborough  and  Ripponden  to  Huddersfield  where  we  stopped  for  tea. We  parked  at  the  retail  park  near  the  John  Smith's  Stadium  in  Huddersfield.  This  week's  trip  was  postponed  until  Sunday  because  I  was  suffering  with  conjunctivitis  on  the  Saturday  and  sought  medical  attention. We  filmed  the  next  stage  of  our  exploration  of  the  river  Irwell . A  video  link  will  appear  in  due  course. Afterwards  we  went  for  a  meal  at  The  Coal  Pit  in  Rawtenstall  which  was  a  bit  pricey  but  nice.   

 The  weather  forecast, that  it  would  be  absolutely  pelting  it  down, turned  out  to  be  correct  so  I  had  to  choose  a  bad  weather  option. With  museums  not  yet  open  and  Simon's  pocket  money  being  low, it  was  a  struggle  to  find  an  attractive  option  but  I  eventually  decided  on  using  the  GM  Wayfarer  ticket  to  visit  Warrington. I'd  never  visited  the  town  centre  before. We  caught  the  train  to  Bolton, then  one  to  Manchester  Oxford  Road ( 10 minute  wait )  then  one  to  Warrington  Central ( just  across  the  platform )  so  were...

 Simon  wanted  to  spend  some  pocket  money  so  we  went  to  Bury ( which  still  has  an  HMV ).  This  was  influenced  by  the  East  Lancashire  Railway  reopening  so  the  plan  was  go  to  Summerseat, do  some  more  filming  on  the  Irwell  as  we  walked  down  to  Bury then  catch  a  train  back. The  day  was  lovely  and  we  had  a  great  walk, the  only  snag  being  that  the  train  back  was  at  12.50  so  we  had  to  rush  the  last  bit. When  we  got  to  Bolton  Street  station, we  were  informed  that  we  couldn't  buy  ...

 This  was  another  round  of  filming  for  the  river  Irwell  on  a  lovely  morning. The  results  will  be  linked  here  in  due  course. Afterwards  we  went  to  Anna's  in  Weir  and  had  some  very  good  pizza.

 This  was  a  bit  of  a  non-event  caused  by  the  funeral  of  the  Duke  of  Edinburgh. This  meant  a  mid-day  kick  off  for  the  Rochdale  game. As  outdoor  dining  was  now  allowed  we  went  to  The  Brown  Cow  in  Burrs  Country  Park  after  the  match . When  we  got  there, we  found  they  were  having  an  unadvertised  mid-afternoon  break  and  wouldn't  be  serving  food  again  until  5pm. We  moved  on  to  Ramsbottom  but  found  all  their  food  outlets  were  shut  except  for  Greggs  so  we  had  some  fine  dining  there.

 This  was  my  choice, to  begin  filming  our  series  on  the  river  Irwell. We  drove  up  to  the  top  end  of  Weir  then  walked  up  the  road  to  Deerplay. The  field  the  source  lies  in  was  guarded  by  an  inquisitive  horse  so  we  didn't  actually  visit  it.  The  results  of  our  filming  can  be  seen here ( not  the  best  quality I'm  afraid ). Afterwards  we  sent  to  Studio  54  in  Ramsbottom  for  lunch. Simon  was  very  impressed  with  his  chicken  goujons  sandwich.
