10 Saturday 4 April 2020 Peel Tower Walk
I studied news reports carefully during the week to get an idea for where the police were concentrating their efforts in policing the lockdown. I thought we'd be alright in doing a walk up to Peel Tower calling at Entwistle's for lunch then revisiting Asda's at Rawtenstall .
I was pleased to find that the Peel Tower car park was still open. We parked there and set off for the Tower. On the way up, we spotted a weasel but it was gone too quickly to grab a picture. We made the Tower in good order. Of course it wasn't open but there were a fair few people up there. We went west a little to see if we could get a view of Bolton then returned to the Tower and pieced together some paths to get down to Stubbins. As you'll see from one of the pictures Simon was amused by the name of one of the farms.
When we got to Stubbins we found that its village store was open so we decided to make that the lunch stop. Simon had a meat pie while I had meat and potato pie and peas. We sat at the outside tables of the cafe next door to eat it. One passer-by had a mild pop at us for this but we took no notice and cleared up after ourselves.
We then took the Irwell Valley Way into Ramsbottom then found some paths back to the car park. Simon was complaining his foot was hurting so he was glad to finish.
We went to Asda in Rawtenstall this time having to queue to get in but that was fine despite Simon getting annoyed at an elderly shopper who nipped in ahead of us.
