7. Saturday 14th March 2020 Blackpool Pleasure Beach
Simon's choice the following week was to return to Blackpool and visit the Pleasure Beach.
At least to start with, it was a nicer day than last time. We changed trains at Blackburn. Simon chatted up a nice girl in the waiting room who was going to Lancaster to play at a concert.
It was sunny as we walked down the Golden Mile to the Pleasure Beach but clouds were gathering.
I bought a Basic Pass for myself and a Big One deal for Simon. The woman at the desk thought the Big One wasn't open yet but I said we'd seen it running on the way down. We first went on the River Caves ride, a sedate trip on a boat through various tableaux before a drop and splash at the finish.
Simon then joined the queue for the Big One. It took him about an hour to get on. Someone in the queue gave him a pair of comedy glasses but these blew off during the ride.
At least he thought it was worth it. He wasn't looking at the camera on the photo so we didn't buy it.
We then went to lunch at Burger King on site. We then went through the Chinese puzzle maze together.
I bought Simon ride tickets for two more rides. He went on a giant see-saw type ride whose name escapes me then we both took a more relaxed ride on the Pleasure Beach express allowing me to marvel at the complexity of the rides architecture.
Simon's last ride was the Wallace and Gromit one then he had a request played - Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody - on the radio station, the DJ Hazza having a chat with him in the booth.
By this stage it was raining heavily. I persuaded Simon it was time to go and we caught the tram to North Pier. Simon then reminded me he wanted to go up the Tower so we had to walk back there in the rain.
I thought it was quite expensive but we paid anyway. We watched the promotional film in the 4D cinema , enjoyed the views from the top and had a drink in the little bar.
I wasn't feeling very hungry but Simon wanted tea so we went to Harry Ramsden's . I couldn't finish what I ordered and felt very rough.
I was glad to get on the train but still felt bad and put my head on the table telling Simon not to disturb me. At one point I felt obliged to rush to the loo and almost threw up but not quite. After that I recovered enough to appreciate some scantily-clad young ladies running for the train when we got off at Bromley Cross.
still one of my favourite trips - simon (the blonde one in the pictures)
