This was a bit of a disaster. The idea was to do another walk from the Paul Hannon book after a visit to Spotland to buy a season ticket for next year. Unfortunately that was to take 4 hours.
The problem was caused by two things. One, the club unwisely put on the website that demand might exceed supply. Two, the club had prepared a seating plan based on who they thought would renew and then abandoned it when the first person didn't like where they'd been put. This meant the plan had to be reconfigured with each subsequent purchase so each transaction took 10 minutes. When we got there, the queue wasn't enormous but horrendously slow moving.
In mitigation, the stewards were giving out free water and Fruit Shoots and one of the directors, Tony Pockney was chatting to spectators and doing his best to move things along. By the time we got the tickets at 2.30pm , Simon had no desire to do the walk and instead we went to The Winston Churchill for some lunch. It's not my favourite place to dine but my scampi and chips was fine.
