33 12 September 2020 Manchester Museum of Science and Industry
Simon wanted a sightseeing trip. I wanted somewhere easy to get to and back so we went for a visit to the Museum of Science and Industry, booking online the night before. In the old days of the LTS, we visited the museum in its former premises on Grosvenor Street twice in October 1979. I had visited the museum with Simon some years earlier but he only had vague memories of the ride simulator.
We went by train and got off at Salford Central as the closest stop to the museum. We noted the mural at the station when we got off.
We found our way to the museum. Not all of it was open. The Air and Space part was closed so no ride simulator for Simon. We went upstairs to a special exhibition abut the Sun. Simon enjoyed making the sun rise in various locations. He particularly liked a device for lighting up a tower with mirrors that looked the inside of the Tardis. We  then  went  out  to  the  interactive  puzzles. Simon  enjoyed  the  musical  blocks , the  skeletal  cyclist  and  the  upside  down  car. He  was  disappointed  by  the  Red  Arrows  ride  despite  having  been  warned  beforehand  it  was  for  younger  kids. Still  not  worth  £2  of  any  parent's  money.
We  then   went  to  the  cafe  where  we  were  fleeced  again  £3.75  for  a  can  of  pop  and  crisps !
After  a  visit  to  the  textile  hall  where  Simon  impressed  the  guide  with  his  knowledge  of  industrial  machinery, we  went  outside  to  look  at  Liverpool  Road  Station. Simon  took  the  opportunity  for  a  breather  in  a  deckchair.
The  station  buildings  were  closed.
After  that,  we  left  the  museum  for  lunch  at  The  Honest  Burger. Simon  was  very  impressed  with  his  cheeseburger. We  had  time  for  a  quick  visit  to  HMV  before  catching  the  train  home.
As always interesting and great photos
