35 3 October 2020 Harris Museum and Art Gallery
Simon wanted a sightseeing trip this week. I thought local lockdown would prevent us using the train so I picked Preston as an easier drive than Manchester. The original plan was to go to the Ribble Steam Museum but that wasn't open so we went for the Harris Museum and Art Gallery instead. As it turned out, restrictions were lifted on the Saturday so we were able to go by train after all.
We went via Blackburn and had a half hour wait there so we nipped into Morrisons for some batteries for the camera and a takeaway sausage bap. Simon had a nap on the train.
It was chucking it down in Preston and we had half an hour to kill before the museum opened so we went to HMV. I bought an Editors CD and Simon a Green Day one. We quickly scampered across to the Museum.
We were given lanyards to wear and put on the one way system. The first exhibition was mainly about glassware and only moderately interesting. Simon took the opportunity to have a sit down.
The Discovering Preston room was more interesting. There was a Viking headstone....
and a giant elk skeleton.
We then looked around the art gallery on the second floor.
We had a quick stop at the cafe.
It didn't too much food so we moved on to Wetherspoons for lunch. Service was unusually slow there so we had a bit of a sprint to catch the right train for getting back for football. We went back via Bolton and the journey was trouble-free.
Always enjoy your posts keep up the good work, I have a soft spot for Preston
