73 Friday 18 - Sunday 20 June 2021 Bradford
There weren't too many weekend options at a reasonable price so we chose Bradford and stayed at an Ibis hotel for a reasonable price. We found it easily enough because it's near the football ground which I've been to many times.
The room was very compact but clean and the staff were pleasant.
On the Friday night we ordered a KFC through Deliveroo. The portions seemed a bit measly compared to what you get in a restaurant. Later I nipped across to Tesco for some further provisions.
On Saturday morning we walked into the city centre passing two large mills, one converted to office accommodation, the other derelict.
We noted The Midland Hotel.....
and the City Hall.
We had breakfast at a Wetherspoon's where the doorman was telling everyone repeatedly about a customer who'd waved their mask in his face.
We then walked across to the National Media Museum where we'd booked tickets. We worked our way through all the exhibitions, We particularly liked a couple of the exhibits in a photography exhibition. The first one is called Damsel in Distressed.
We then went for our pre-booked slot in the Games Lounge. I beat Simon at Pong while he beat me at Street Fighter. I had a go at old favourites like Space Invaders, Asteroids and Defender. Our slot was over too soon.
We then went for a disappointing lunch in the cafe there before visiting other exhibition areas. Simon enjoyed the hall of mirrors.
We then went to the Imax cinema for a showing of a documentary about Antarctica. We had ice cream appropriately enough.
After we'd finished there, we decided to visit the cathedral but it wasn't open. We clocked a place for dinner later, a Chinese buffet place called Azuma's. We went back to the hotel for a couple of hours first. Azumas was a bit disappointing, friendly service but very average food.
We had a bit of a lie-in on the Sunday before setting off for a walk in the Worth Valley. We stopped for breakfast at the Toby Carvery in Keighley. Again, it was a bit disappointing , probably because we were towards the end of the breakfast sitting and the food was a bit overcooked.
We parked the car at Ingrow West station. We took a country lane to Damems station
We then went up the hill - a bit of a pull - to a level track which took us most of the way to Haworth. Simon was amused by one of the road names.
We had something to eat at a cafe in Haworth then wandered up Main Street to see the Parsonage.
