87 Friday 1 - Sunday 3 October 2021 Bradford weekend
Our next trip was another visit to Bradford to coincide with the football fixture. We set off shortly after Simon finished school and stopped for tea at a chip shop in Ramsbottom. That was good and we then had an uneventful journey before arriving once again at the Ibis in Bradford. We had a slightly bigger room this time round.
We watched a bit of The Chase before going to bed.
We had a bit of a lie-in the next morning then walked up to the football ground to get our tickets. I had not fully understood the collection arrangements and they wouldn't arrive until the team coach did. This is the view back to the hotel from near the ground.
We then went to Subway for an underwhelming breakfast. We went back to the hotel where they kindly said it was OK for our friends to park during the game. We then drove up to Dick Hudson's , a favourite pub fotr a pre-match meal where we met up with our friends Philip, Mark and Danny. I made the wrong choice, a fancy chicken sandwich which wasn't that great but everyone else was happy.
We left at two but the traffic back to the hotel was quite heavy and Simon and I had to run ahead a bit to pick up our tickets. We missed the first few minutes thanks to a ridiculously over-zealous steward holding up the queue with OTT body searches. That apart, Bradford's stadium is ridiculously good for League Two and we had an excellent view of the game.
Rochdale had their chances but we were wasteful in front of goal and ended up losing 2-0 so we were all a bit down on the walk back to the hotel. We waved the others off. from the car park. With the weather so poor, we decided to eat at the hotel that evening. The food was OK but nothing special.
The weather was better in the morning so we went into the city centre and had breakfast at Wetherspoon's . We checked out mid-morning and drove to Bolling Hall Museum. We filmed a video there which I'll link in due course.
After that we moved onto Shipley where we had a nice lunch at a little Hungarian-owned cafe. We had a wander round Shipley station where I pointed out the unusual triangular layout to Simon. We then went to find a miniature railway nearby but it had shut down for the winter. We then stopped off at Thompson Park Burnley, which was on our way back, for the same reason but the result was the same. We then went home.
