This was another football weekend. We were going to stay at an airbandb place but they said they couldn't get the room ready on time. I suspect my mentioning football might have put them off. We then looked at Travelodge but there was a private provider only charging £1 more so we went there instead.
We drove up as soon as Simon finished school and stopped off at Ulverston for something to eat. We had a bit of a walk before we found a pub serving food. We had a long wait, the food was ordinary and we had the manageress putting the world to rights with her mates on a nearby table.
We then drove on to Barrow. We had a job finding the property in the dark and resorted to using Google Maps before we found "The Garden". We were a bit earlier than we'd said and the landlord wasn't on the premises but the other people who were staying there let us in. There were two couples in the lounge cum kitchen, a pair in their sixties and a pair in their thirties. They were very friendly; the older pair were civil but I got the feeling they would have preferred to have the room to themselves. The younger guy rang the landlord for us and he came round with our room keys shortly afterwards. The room was nice but there wasn't much room to walk around the bed. I took a nap while Simon chatted to the people downstairs.
We were both tired and turned in early
We found our way to Wetherspoon's for breakfast. It was virtually next door to the pub where Mark and Philip had said they were going to be before the match. We noted the Town Hall on our way there.
It was raining quite heavily so we headed for the Docks Museum where we spent an hour or so, We then went to a recotd shop where Simon purchased some vinyl.
We went back to The Garden to drop the record off then headed for the pub. There was no sign of Mark and Philip and we decided to head for the ground around 2.15pm. When we got there the gates were still closed and eventually we learned that the game had only just passed a pitch inspection and would be kicking off at 3.30pm When we got in Simon was appalled by the poor facilities in comparison to Bradford but at least we were in early enough to get a relatively decent viewing spot and Rochdale won the game 2-1. Mark and Philip had gone to the pub but they had known about the posponement and delayed their arrival accordingly.
After the game, we walked back to the house observing a girl dressed for Halloween in a dress that exposed a very sizeable proportion of her backside. The older couple had moved on but the younger ones ( John and I think Angela ) were staying all week.. Around 7.30, we headed to KFC for something to eat. There were some younger lads there who seemed to twig we were from Rochdale but the banter was reasonably friendly. We walked back to the house passing some more scantily clad girls going out for Halloween.
In the morning, we headed to Wetherspoons for breakfast again. We then came back to pack. John and Angela had only just got up and she was pottering around in her nightdress. We said goodbye and headed for Gleason Castle which took a bit of finding. The fotage we shot there will appear here in due course.
We then moved on to Bardsea where we had a walk on the sands,
We had something to eat at a beachside cafe that was closing for the winter later that afternoon. After that we decided to head for home because Simon's friend was coming round to go trick or treating with him. It was only when we got home that I realised we'd missed the clocks going back and it wasn't as late as we thought.
