121 Saturday 4th June 2022 Barrowford to Barnoldswick
The next week it was my choice and I opted for continuing along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal from Barrowford. We took the train to Colne but the connections weren't good and left us time to have some breakfast at the Postal Order in Blackburn.
Then we had a bit of a wait for a bus to Barrowford Locks.
The towpath was tarmacked for some distance.
We passed a few barges moored up on this stretch.
After the barge had re-entered the tunnel we got up and walked the quiet back roads to the other exit in the village of Foulridge. We actually got there just before the barge exited the tunnel. We went into the restaurant at the Foulridge marina. I'd done the next stretch before and though very scenic , I found a bit boring.
A marker on the far side showed that we were crossing into North Yorkshire although the canal did turn back into Lancashire further on.
There was another line of barges on the far side.
Near here our nostrils were assaulted by a farmer muck spreading in an adjacent field whch Simon didn't appreciate at all.
The canal made a sharp left turn at Salterforth.
Shortly afterwards, we left the canal at Barnoldswick Marina and walked through a wood to get to the village. We caught a bus back to Colne almost straight away. As we were getting on, we were shouted at by a drunken man sat near the front who didn't want the bus to stop. We went upstairs but we could hear him going on each time it stopped. When he saw where he wanted to alight he tried to guide the driver to stop there rather than the actual stop. There was a great sigh of relief when he finally got off. The bus dropped us off at the far end of town from the train station so we walked right down the main street, passing the memorial to the band leader on the Titanic who was born in these parts.
We then caught the train and there were no more incidents to report.
