122 Saturday 11 June 2022 Dr Who Exhibition, LIverpool
This was Simon's choice, a visit to the Dr Who exhibition at Liverpool's World Museum. I had been to a Dr Who exhibition with my Dad in Blackpool back in 1975 so it was interesting to see an update. When we were buying our train tickets, we were advised that it was cheaper if we went via Wigan rather than Manchester so we did that. We got off at Bolton and found that the next train for Wigan had been cancelled so we went to Wetherspoons for some breakfast.
At Wigan, we had to walk over from Wigan Wallgate to Wigan North Western for the train to Liverpool.
The train was very crowded and it was a relief to disembark at Lime St station. We walked over to the museum.
I noted that it was near the entrance to the Mersey tunnel.
Entry to the Dr Who exhibition was timed so we had a look round the Aquarium first.
Photography was not allowed in the Dr Who exhibition unfortunately. There was a good mix of classic and re-boot props but I thought filling it out with "let's use it to get the kids interested in science" displays was a bit too obvious and intrusive. Simon enjoyed it anyway.
There was a Dalek outside the exhibition for photo-ops
After that, we left the museum and used Google Maps to get us to the nearest Greene King pub which turned out to be at Albert Dock. After lunch we went on the Ferris Wheel.
There were good views over Albert Dock....
the river Mersey.....
the Liver building...
and the city centre
After that we walked up to the Catholic cathderal via Mount Pleasant St where I pointed out where I used to go to college. Simon was very impressed with the brutalist architecture.
He also loved the interior.
After that we made our way home. We had a long wait for a train in Wigan where we spent the time in Wetherspoon's.
