128 Friday 22 - Sunday 24 July 2022 Barrow-in-Furness weekend
Finding reasonably priced accommodation in July isn't easy so we were off to Barrow once more for our weekend away. This time we stayed at The Lodge which proved perfectkly adequate for our needs. We particularly enjoyed the free pool table.
On the Saturday morning we went for breakfast at Wetherspoon's.
We then headed on to Walney Island and the nature reserve at the southern end. We paid the entrance fee and borrowed a pair of binoculars hoping to see some seals. We followed one of the trails around the reserve. There were good views out to Piel Castle.
We passed the lighthouse, now a private residence.
By this time, it had started raining heavily so we retreated into one of the hides to wait it out. The rain continued to batter hard and eventually we decided to bolt for the next hide at Grune Point where we had been told there was the best chance of seeing seals. I caught the odd glimpse of something that might have been a seal in the water but nothing definite.
It finally stopped raining so we did the rest of the trail, seeing a lot of rabbits but no seals. One of the hides had an interesting display of painted eggs.
We had lunch at a beachside cafe on Walney then drove back into Barrow. Simon visited the record shop where the guy did remember him from last time, We then drove to Dalton where we filmed the video you can see here.
