141 Saturday 17 September 2022 Arnside ( Westmorland Heritage Walk part 1)

 This  was  my  chooice  again  , Simon  magnanimously  accepting  that  the  previous  week  had  been  severely  constrained.

I chose  to  go  to  Arnside  and  do  the  first  part  of  the  Westmorland  Heritage  Walk , a  book  I've  had  for  years. It  took  a  while  to  get  there  as  there  were  no  trains  beyond  Carnforth  and  we  had  to  wait  there  for  a   replacement bus. After  getting  some  food  from  the  Co  Op  we  set off  as  soon  as  we  got  there  starting  off  along  the  sand. It  was  a  lovely  day.

 We  had  a  good  view  of  the   railway viaduct  over  the  river  Kent.

We  stopped  our  first  break  at  the  New  Barn campsite  where  we  enjoyed  the  company  of  a  semi-tame  robin.

We  were  still  walking  along  the  foreshore.

There  was  a  good  view acoss  to  Grange -over-Sands.

This  was  the  view  back  up  the  Kent  estuary.

I  pointed  out  Humphrey  Head  across  the  water.

As the  path  started  to  climb  above  the  shore  there was  a  good  view  out  to  Heysham.

This  is  looking  out  towards  Warton  Crag.

On  a  bench  above  the  cliffs  we  had  a  lunch  stop, A  lady  walking  her  dog  recognised  Simon  from  his  primary  school  where  she'd  been  doing  some  supply  work.  After  that , the  route  went  inland   passing  through  a  large  caravan  park  at  Far  Arnside. It  then  headed  north  towards  Arnside  Knott. Hollins  Farm  ahead  no  longer  did  teas.

We  soon  went  past  Arnside  Tower  where  we'd  filmed  earlier  in  the  year.

This  is  looking  back  at  the  Knott  from  the  Tower.

We  went  a  bit  wrong  in  the  woods  beyond  this  spot  and  had  to  retrace  our  steps  a  bit  to  a  stile. At  Black  Dyke,  we  left  the  route  of  the  WHW  and  walked  back  to  Arnside. We  had  tea at  Ye  Olde  Fighting  Cocks Inn.  We  then  walked  back to  Arnside  station  for  the  minibus.

It  was  moreor  less  on  time  and  we  started  our  long  journey  home.
