144 Friday 7th - Sunday 9th October Kendal weekend
For our next weekend away, we opted for Kendal hostel which used to be YHA but is now run independently.
We drove through some horrendous rainstorms to get there hen had a bit of difficulty navigating Kendal's one-way system to park up nearby. Once checked in we went round to the Miles Thompson pub for something to eat.
We had Breakfast at the Miles Thompson then made our way to Bowness for a powerboat ride on Windermere. I had to drive off and drive back in but otherwise Simon was aloowed to take the controls.
These are all pictures taken on the ride.
All too soon it was over. We had a look round Bowness and got something to eat. We then moved on to Sixzergh Castle where we did some filming. The video will appear here in due course.
We then returned to Kendal. It was the weekend of the Kendal Music Festival and we watched a drumming troupe in the street. Back in the hostel , we befriended George the cat who was lovely. There was a squash tournament at a club nearby and a lot of the other guests were participants. The warden told me off for using staff cups but they weren't marked as such. We had takeaways for supper; I had Chinese, Simon had nuggets and chips from a chippy. We played pool downstairs and watched a bit of TV.
The next morning we had the Continental breakfast at the hostel then went to Mass in Kendal and had coffee afterwards. We then drove to Kentmere to do a walk up to Sour Howes and Sallows. As I half-expected we were unable to park in Kentmere so had to revise the route somewhat. Because we had to record a radio show that evening we were somewhat pressed for time and when the route up to Sour Howes looked more tricky than we expected, we decided to miss it out and shorten the route. This is as close as we got.
This was the view from our lunch stop.
We stopped at Lancaster services for a Burger King meal on the way back.
