158 Sunday 29th January 2023 Darwen with Hike On Lancashire
This was something a bit different. I had committed myself to lead a breakfast walk for the Hike On Lancashire walking group starting from Lower Oakenhurst Farm in Darwen so Simon came with me and the walk became our trip for the week.
There was a nice surprise at the Farm as Simon's breakfast came free. If the quality of the cooked breakfast wasn't quite as good as other places we've patronised, I was very impressed by the choice on offer. I had around 20 takers for the walk with about half of those turning up early for the breakfast.
We set off down the river Darwen Vally towards Ewood Park. Though very close to the A666 the woods are dense enough to conceal the urban environment.
We were soon looking down on Ewood Park.
Shortly after that we crossed the A666 and headed for the aqueduct at Mill Hill.
We joined the towpath and headed west.
We had to make a bit of a detour toget round a new hosing development where the path had been temporarily closed but eventually joined up with the Witton Weaver's Way. By now it had started to rain.
After crossing the M65 there was a nice wooded interlude on the way to Tockholes.
