159 Saturday 4th February 2023 Manchester Transport Museum
This trip was arranged with attending Rochdale's game at Salford in mind.
We had a little difficulty finding the museum as it's not well signed. The attendant told us they'd had a few signs pinchd in the past.
The museum is mainly dedicated to buses.
There is the odd horse-drawn carriage too,
Simon enjoyed the ones you could actually board.
He was amused at some of the instructions.
I was uncomfortably aware that some of the buses of my past were now exhibition pieces.
This bus had the colours of Bolton Corporation.
This seems to be the star exhibit, the only surviving example of a fleet of trolleybuses from the thirties. As you can see, its restoration is a work-in-progress.
This plaque had a particular resonance with me. I immediately recognised it as having come from the now-demolished Rochdale Bus Station which opened during the first week of the LTS's existence and was explored on the second ever trip.
This was a more modern Metrolink tram.
