162 Friday 25 - Sunday 27 February 2023 Trentham weekend
For our next weekend, we stayed with Travelodge and chose Trentham near Stoke, partly for its proximity to Crewe where Rochdale were playing on the Saturday although after two dismal home defeats , our appetite for further punishment had diminished. Before setting off for Trentham, we went to Rochdale to re-film some footage of the Roch which we'd managed to lose. I had also realised that my camera was in the pocket of the coat I'd left at KFC but thankfully it had been handed in and I made arrangements to collect it on the Sunday.
We booked in at the Travelodge then went out for a meal at a Greene King pub about half a mile away.
In the morning, we had breakfast at the Brewer's Fayre next door then drove to Trentham Gardens, my first visit there since a parish outing back in 1974 when it rained all day.
There was now a little shopping village there. We made our way down by the lake.
We noted this sculpture by the miniature railway.
We then found our way to the monkey garden, home to a collection of free roaming macaque apes.
We enjoyed a little talk about predators in the wild
Simon had a look at this spinning game.
As usual, he found a seat in the exhibition space.
After leaving the monkey garden, we filmed on the miniature railway. You can see the video here.
Once that was complete, we went for lunch at a pizza place in the shopping village. We then had to decide whether to go to Crewe for the football and chose not to go. We went to Longton instead to visit a record shop where Simon was very happy with his purchase.
That evening we had some Chinese takeaway then popped in to the Brewer's Fayre for dessert. We returned there in the morning for breakfast. We then drove to Nantwich for a walk. I hadn't been in the town centre before but it's very attractive.
The walk started from the town centre then joined the Shropshire Union Canal at this aqueduct.
The walk along the canal was very pleasant.
