169 Sunday 16th April 2023 Rochdale Canal :Dean Lane to Mills Hill
This trip was chosen with two considerations in mind. One was that as we'd got soaked on a walk near Windermere on the Friday we should avoid that possibility as much as possible. The second was that Simon needed some shots for his photography course so we needed to go where we'd see plenty of people. Hence, we opted for continuing along the Rochdale Canal.
We caught the train into Manchester then caught the Metrolink back to Newton Heath.
We soon got back to the canal.
Near Failsworth there was a sign actually in the canal warning of an obstruction
As we approached Failsworth there was a wooded section
Simon spotted a skeleton on the opposie bank.
Just as we approached the sharp turn at Failsworth, we bumped into a familiar face coming the other way. Ian Bailey, former chairman of the Rochdale Supportrs Club, was walking the whole towpath over three days. We had a football chat before moving on.
The section through Hollinwood was more scenic and quieter.
We had to leave the towpath for a short stretch near the M60
A bit further on, the towpath goes round a little inlet.
We decided to end the walk at Mill's Hill. We then decided to let the first train go by and get something to eat at the Rose Of Lancaster. The food was very good.
