177 Saturday 10 June 2023 Ribblesdale
This trip was planned a few weeks in advance, combining an ascent of Pen-y-Ghent with a visit to our friends in Selside. Julie came with us on this one. We drove up to Selside stopping for some breakfast at Pendle Heritage Centre en route.
We had tea and cake in the garden before deciding that it was too hot for Pen-y-Ghent and decided on a shorter walk that we could all go on, After passing through the hamlet we looked back at what might have been.
We crossed the infant river Ribble.
At Low Birkwith, we crossed a footbridge to take an indistinct footpath running near CAm Beck.
There was a good view across to Ingleborough.
At  Nether  Lodge, we  joined  the  Three  Peaks  route  for  the  climb  to  God's  Bridge. This  is  looking  back  towards  Whernside.
At  God's  Bridge, our  friends  were  planning  to  paddle  under  it  but  evidence  that  Three  Peaks  walkers  were  using  it  as  a  toilet  put  paid  to  that  idea.
We  had  a  long  rest  stop  there.
These  sheep  were  hoping  we'd  leave  the  gate  open.
Soon,  we  were  approaching  the  plantations  above  High  Birkwith.
There  was  an  impressive limestone  scar  on  our  left.
The  last  leg  was  along  the  Pennine  Bridleway  though  you  wouldn't  have  thought it  from  the  complete  lack  of  either  horses  or  bicycles that  afternoon.
We  got  back  to  Selside  where  we  had  a  barbecue  tea. We  said  goodbye  to  our  friends' ducks  before  driving  home.
