184 Saturday 30 July 2023 Penrith
This weekend fell within our usual family holiday in Keswick. On the Saturday , Simon and I drove to Penrith to film a couple of former pele towers in the town centre for our All The Castles video series.. The footage that we shot appears here
We went by bus, the station being just across from where we were staying
After finishing filming we went to look round the parish church with its medieval tower.
Simon checked his phone outside the church.
We had lunch at the cafe opposite the church. Simon got talking to a musician who was up for the Keswick Convention. He let Simon play his guitar.
After lunch we visited Penrith Museum. The most interesting exhibit for me was the monocle belonging to Percy Toplis the so-called "Monocled Mutineer" who was killed nearby in 1920.
After that we found a record shop where Simon made a purchase before we returned to Penrith station for the bus back to Keswick.
