185 Sunday 6th August 2023 The River Spodden part 1
For my next choice of trip, I chose to make a start on filming the river Spodden. We drove to Bacup and parked near the old police station ( as featured in Juliet Bravo ).
We then went to a supermarket for some provisions, As there was no bus service on a Sunday we started with a road walk towards Sharneyford, Rhere was a playground on the way where Simon had a go on the zip wire.
We had a drinks break just after leaving the road,
We ascended past a farm and through rough pasture towards The Rossendale Way. There was a good view looking back towards Cowpe Lowe.
We got a great view from the top of the hill.
We then turned south along The Rossendale Way which is in a wretched condition hereabouts, a long sretch of tussocky swamp alkongside an old wall with solid footings at a premium.
Eventually we abandoned it for the relatively inviting track to the wind turbines a few yards to the left. Simon ascended the ladder to the door of one of the turbines.
Finally we escaped the Way and found the source of the Spodden. The footage e shot can be viewed here.
What the video didn't capture was my ripping my pants negotiating a fence where the stile was missing.
Once we hit the main road in Shawforth, it started raining so we called it a day and caught the bus back to Bacup.
