186 Saturday 12th August 2023 "The City of the Sun" Exhibition , Manchester

 This  was  a  strong  contender  for  the  worst  trip  of  trhe  year. Simon  chose  to  visit  a  photography  exhibition, Simon  Wright's  "The  City  of  the  Sun " at  Village  Books  in  Manchester. The  bookshop  took  a  bit  of  finding requiring  the use  of  Google  Maps.


We  decided  to  have  lunch  first.


We  found  our  way  to  the  small  arty  bookshop  which  was  empty  and  descended  to  the  windowless  basement  for  the  exhibition.

This  was  the  most  interesting  picture  n  what  looked  like  sometimes  holiday  snaps  in  Naples.


As  usual  Simon  found  somewhere  to  park  his  bum.


There  was  another  reason  why  it  was  a  good  idea  to  sit  down.




After  an  underwhelming 10  minutes,  we  exited  and  after  a  bit  of  shopping  went  home.

 Having  got  the  bit  between  his  teeth, Simon  wanted to finish  the  towpath  with  the  final  section  into  Sowerby  Bridge.. This  was  a  direct  repeat  of  a  trip  from  the  classic  era  in  January 1980.  We  drove  to  Hebden Bridge, stopping  at  Nutty's  Butty's  along  the  way. 242 Sunday 10th November 2024 National Football Museum

 Simon  wanted  to  bring  Josh  along  for  his  trip. The  weather looked  a  bit  iffy  so  I  suggested  we  visit  the  Urbis  National Football Museum  in  Manchester. We  took  a  rail replacement  bus  into  Bolton and  picked  up  a  train  to  Manchester  there. We went  to Subway for  some  lunch  first We then  went  to  the  museum. 244 Sunday November 24th 2024 Stockport Record Fair

 There wasn't much doubt Simon would choose this option when I put it on the "menu" . We caught the train  to  Stockport , making the last  leg of the  journey on a Pendolino train. We  had  lunch at a Wetherspoon's before making our way  to the  record  fair  in  the  Guildhall. It  looked like a  failed mission but Simon found  something at the last minute. We  called in at  the  War  Memorial Art Gallery  which  was  on  the  way  back to  the  station. The  exhibit was  a  sries  of  townscapes  such  as  this  one  of  the  viaduct.
