202 Saturday 20th January 2024 Museum of Liverpool
This was Simon's choice, a return to Liverpool for the Museum of Liverpool on the waterfront. We were out for longer than anticipated. First , when we got into Bolton, we had a long wait for the rail replacement bus to Wigan so we went to the Bolton FM ( where we're volunteer presenters ) offices to keep warm and have a brew. Eventually, we caught the bus to Wigan. The train on to Liverpool was a slow one, stopping at all the stations. From Liverpool Lime St we caught the underground train to James St.
When we got to the museum we went to the cafe for a bit of lunch first. When we finished, we had just an hour to explore before the museum closed.
There were some old vehicles.
There were stuffed animals.
The star of the collection is the Lion locomotive, built in 1838 ( sorry about the camera shakes ).
There was a recreation of the overhead railway that used to run along the front.
There was a model of Liverpool Castle.
On the top floor was a large window looking across the Mersey.
We were amused by the seaside postcard statuettes.
With the museum closing at 4 , we moved across to the British Music Experience which closed at 5. Simon played a bit of drums and guitar while I practiced the bass. Afterwards, we walked through the city looking for HMV. We then went to Lime St where we had tea at Wetherspoons. It was heaving and we initially had to settle for an outside table though we managed to switch inside before the food arrived. We had to wait to get out because they'd locked the door downstairs.
On the train we were sat near a woman who was drunk out of her mind and started arguing with two couples across the aisle. She missed her stop and had to get off at the next station to general relief. When we got to Wigan there was no train to Bolton for a couple of hours so we walked to the bus station for a bus instead. Some teenage girls were trying to start a fight and some security guys had to escort them off. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait too long for our final train to Bromley Cross.
