208 Sunday 10th March 2024 Thackray Medical Museum , Leeds
It was back to Yorkshire for this one, picked because Medicine is part of Simon's GCSE syllabus. I had been to the museum before back in 2011. The original plan was to drive to Todmorden , cath a train to leeds and then attend Mass at Leeds Cathedral before going on to the museum. However, the lateness of the train meant we went to Mass in Todmorden instead and caught a later train. When we got to Leeds, it was lunchtime so we went to the Wetherspoon's . We had some extra food from the table next to us who had over-ordered.
It was raining hard as we found the bus stop for the museum.
We didn't have to wait long for the bus. It was a short ride to the museum.
We started off walking round the mocked up street scene where you picked out everything that was unsanitary.
It looks like I had a touch of the camera shakes that day, This wasn't for the use of visitors !
This is the somewhat macabre plague dress , constructed from materials associated with bubonic plague.
Simon had a go at a quiz machine,
Simon correctly identified this as an iron lung machine,
We had a chortle at the rather coy exhibition on sexual health. We then went round the Apothecary store before it was time to go. We had an uneventful journey home.
