Clarke Chronicler's Resurrection

 This  trip  was a  follow-up  to  a  visit  over the Christmas  period. Access  to  the  inner part  of  the  castle  is  through  a  pub and  it  was  closed  on  our  first  visit. We  caught the  train  to  Runcorn East. We  then  caught  the  bus  to  Halton, The  video we  filmed  at  the  Castle  can  be  seen  here  though  some  of  the  footage  is  from  the  earlier  visit. After  that  we  walked  back  to  the  shopping  centre  and  bus  terminus. We  had  lunch  at  Subway. We  then made  our  way  home.

 Siimon  chose  this  one  from  a  menu  of  options. We  took  the  train to  St  Helen's  Central via Wigan. We  were  quite  impressed with  the  station building. We  found  the  museum  which  replaced  the  Pilkington Glass Museum which  I  visited with  the  school in  1979. We  looked  round  the  tunnels  below  the  regenerative  glass  furnace. Hard  hats were  required  for  the  outer  tunnels. There  was  a  nifty  bridge  over  the  St  Helen's Canal. The  museum  also  has  sections  detailing  more  general  local  history.  As  it  was  a  nice  day  I  opted  to continue  our  Huddersfield Narrow  Canal  walk  by  walking  over  the  tops  above  the  Standedge  Tunnels. We  caught  the  train  to  Greenfield  then  the  Huddersfield  bus  to  Diggle. The front  seats  upstairs  that  Simon  likes  to  sit  on  were  occupied  by  two  absolute  slobs , a  man  and  woman  I  think  but  it  was  difficult  to  be  sure. We  got  off  at  Diggle and  walked  over  to  the  canal.Simon was  hungry so  we  called  at  the  canalside  cafe  but they  didn't have  anything suitable  so  we  moved  on. We...

 Simon's  choice  was  another  walk  in  Calderdale . I  thought  a  walk  up  the  Colden  Valley  from  Hebden  Bridsge  would  cover  some  new  ground.  We  drove  to  Hebden  Bridge  and  parked  on  the  Fairfield  road  to  avoid  parking  charges.  Then  we  faced  disaster. I  realised  that  I  had  left  my  walking  boots  at  home. I  knew  my  feet  would  end  up  blistered  if  I  did  the  whole  walk  in  trainers so  we went  to  Boots  first  and  I  covered  potential  pressure  points  in  plasters.
