234 Saturday 7th September 2024 Sowerby
Simon chose a return to Calderdale for a walk. I devised a short walk from Sowerby, a little corner of the district that I'd not previously visited but first we had some business to transact. Our gimbal had ceased working so we dropped it off at Video Clinic in Breightmet. Then we went to Milletts in Bury to get Simon a new coat. Next stop was Ripponden for some lunch. One of the cafes we scouted also doubled up as a small record shop where Simon bought a Yes album on vinyl. However, we decided to lunch at a different restaurant across the road.
We eventually moved on to Sowerby and parked by the church.
Although the village is not overly scenic, there are some impressive old buildings
As we approached the high point of the walk , Crow Hill, the weather took a turn for the worst and we lost much visibility.
Fortunately, the acent of Crow Hill from the clear track is short and mostly clear underfoot so we found the trig pont quite easily. This was my first visit there for 45 years.
There wasn't much of a view so we didn't hang around.
With the rain settling in, we headed back to Sowerby by the shortest route. By the time we got back to the car. Simon was pretty wet.
We drove home.
