240 Saturday 26th October 2024 Crewe Heritage Centre
This was Simon's choice from a menu I drew up at his request. Naturally, we went down to Crewe by train.
The annoying thing about the Heritage Centre is that you see it on the way into Crewe station and then realise you've got a bit of a walk to get back to it ! Of coure Simon needed a rest once we got inside the Centre.
There were notices that filming was going on but we didn't see anyone apart from ourselves.
We started with a game of chess which was tight but I eventually won.
We then explored some train cabs.
We then admired the miniature railway layouts.
Then it was into another cab.
We then walked through the APT train parked up on the site.
We moved on to the cafe where we bought something to eat.
Before we sat down to eat it, we had an explanation of the signallling equipment upstairs.
We ate our lunch in the viewing area where the best spots were being hogged by some serious transpotters. When finished , we moved on to the miniature railway. The video we filmed can be seen here.
After that we looked at some of the other rolling stock on site.
This is one of the original Metrolink units.
We then went into a signal box relocated from Exeter where Simon had a go on some of the levers. After that, we went into the adhjacent Tesco store for a fuller meal. We then went into the town centre to find a record shop . It was small but Simon spotted something he wanted. We walked back to the station for the journey home.
