244 Sunday November 24th 2024 Stockport Record Fair

 There wasn't much doubt Simon would choose this option when I put it on the "menu" . We caught the train  to  Stockport , making the last  leg of the  journey on a Pendolino train.


We  had  lunch at a Wetherspoon's before making our way  to the  record  fair  in  the  Guildhall. It  looked like a  failed mission but Simon found  something at the last minute.


We  called in at  the  War  Memorial Art Gallery  which  was  on  the  way  back to  the  station.


The  exhibit was  a  sries  of  townscapes  such  as  this  one  of  the  viaduct.


The  war  memorial itself  takes  centre  stage  in  the  building.


Simon liked this  one.


Pity she  was a Stockport fan.


This  was  the  view  to  the  town hall from the steps.


We  then  caught  the  train back home.

 Simon  wanted  to  bring  Josh  along  for  his  trip. The  weather looked  a  bit  iffy  so  I  suggested  we  visit  the  Urbis  National Football Museum  in  Manchester. We  took  a  rail replacement  bus  into  Bolton and  picked  up  a  train  to  Manchester  there. We went  to Subway for  some  lunch  first We then  went  to  the  museum. 209 Friday 15th- Sunday 17th March Chester Weekend

 We  headed  back  for  our  third  stay  at  Chester  Trafford  YHA. We  arrived  in  the  early  evening. Simon  noted  the  flowering  cherry  in  blossom. We  were  allocated  Room S38 We  had  breakfast  at  the  hostel  then  drove  into  the  city  centre and  parked  at  the  station. We  caught  the  train  to  Shotton  noting  the  unusual layout  of  the  station. We   waited  for  a  bus  to  Wepre  Country  Park but  then  decided  to  walk  there  instead  which  was  a  pleasant  stroll.  Julie  came  with  us  on  this  one, a  visit  to  our  friends  in  Selside  using  the  new  Dalesrail  service  providing  direct  trains  between Bromley Cross and  Horton-in-Ribblesdale  on  a  Saturday. I  noted  the  crackle  of  branches  as  the  train  went  through  the  little-used  section  between Clitheroe  and  Hellifield. We  noted  the  Fat  Controller at  Settle  station.
