246 Sunday 8 December 2024 Manchester

 This  wasn't  the  greatest trip of  the  year. Simon  chose to finish  off  filming the river Medlock so  we  went  for  the  train to Manchester. It  was  delayed by  three quarters  of  an hour  so  we  drove  to  Radcliffe instead and  caught  the  Metrolink into Manchester.

We  had  already  decided  to  start  filming  a  new video  series on  eating  in  Manchester so  we  went  to  The  Beer House  at  Victoria  Station. A  cop  policing  the  Arena  warned  us  about  filming  on  the  concourse  but  nobody  bothered us  inside  the  pub. The  video we filmed can be seen here.


After  we'd  finished  we  caught  the  tram  to  Piccadilly  and  walked  over  to  Mayfield Park. It  started  to  rain  heavily and  after  15 minutes under  a  shelter , the  rain and  diminishing light caused  us  to  abandon any more  filming  and  we  went  to  Fopp where  Simon  bought some records. Then we went home.

 Simon  wanted  to  bring  Josh  along  for  his  trip. The  weather looked  a  bit  iffy  so  I  suggested  we  visit  the  Urbis  National Football Museum  in  Manchester. 209 Friday 15th- Sunday 17th March Chester Weekend

 We  headed  back  for  our  third  stay  at  Chester  Trafford  YHA. We  arrived  in  the  early  evening. Simon  noted  the  flowering  cherry  in  blossom. We  were  allocated  Room S38 We  had  breakfast  at  the  hostel  then  drove  into  the  city  centre and  parked  at  the  station. We  caught  the  train  to  Shotton  noting  the  unusual layout  of  the  station.  Julie  came  with  us  on  this  one, a  visit  to  our  friends  in  Selside  using  the  new  Dalesrail  service  providing  direct  trains  between Bromley Cross and  Horton-in-Ribblesdale  on  a  Saturday. I  noted  the  crackle  of  branches  as  the  train  went  through  the  little-used  section  between Clitheroe  and  Hellifield. We  noted  the  Fat  Controller at  Settle  station.
