269 Saturday 24th May 2025 The Bridgewater Canal : Timperley to Dunham Massey

Simon chose to continue our walk along  the  towpath of The Bridgewater Canal.

We drove  to Radcliffe for the tram to Timperley. When we got there, Simon wanted to stop at the cafe attached to the tram stop for something  to  eat.  I just had some toast  but Simon had a big helping of salt and pepper fries  which he couldn't finish so we took some home in a doggy box.

We  rejoined  the  towath in pretty  urban  surroundings.

We  were  both struck by  these  apartment  buildings  shaped like  ships.

The  more  conventional architecture of the old linotype works was also striking.

We  saw some rowers at the edge of Altrincham.

The canal took a turn to the right and  instantly became more rural

It  wasn't long before we started to see evidence of the  breach of New Year's Day.

At  Dunham we came to the point where the  towpath has been closed for remedial work until further notice .

We  waited for a bus outside the  gates to the Dunham Massey estate. We spotted some deer through the windows of the bus. Once back in Altrincham , we investigated a couple of record shos but didn't buy anything. We then went to the Wetherspoon's for a bite to eat before  taking the tram back to Radcliffe.
