271 Saturday June 7 2025 Dunham Massey

This  was  Simon's  choice, ostensibly to see  an  exhibition  called Origin at Dunham Massey  which we'd skirted on the last Bridgewater Canal Walk. Because  the  bus  service from Altrincham was two-hourly it  required some  careful planning but  firstly  our  train into Manchester was  delayed  then there was a delay on the Metrolink so we needed  a  real  sprint to catch the bus in Altrincham. Fortunately we made it.

We  made  our  way down a drive from the bus  stop and  headed for the ticket office. We saw our first pair of deer  near the lawn outside it.

We  then walked by the lake to the house.

We  noted this  500  year old oak tree.

Simon snapped something nearly  as fossilised.

We passed this  lovely  willow sculpture on the way.

Inside  the  house it  was  interesying  but  very  dimly  lit  so as  not  so  condusive to photography. However we admired this  Jacobean  carving  of  the  Crucifixion

Simon  wasn't going to pass up that  invitation was he ?

We  were  impressed  by  this  painting of  the  estate.

We then found out that the exhibition wasn't there on a Saturday. Simon didn't mind. We then went to the tea-room for some  light  lunch which was enjoyable.

We  decided  to go for the 2pm rather than 4pm bus  so had limited time left to explore the park. After a brief chat with a nice girl from the Rivers Trust, we went looking for more deer. Here's the results.

We took  a last look back at the house.

We caught the bus back and tram back to Manchester. We  then went  to the Tank and Paddle for tea. The  video we filmed there will appear here in due course.
