303 Friday 30 January to Sunday 1 February 2026 Burton-in-Kendal weekend

 We took our accustomed trip to Burton and stayed in the Travelodge. The drive up was uneventful.


On the Saturday , we went filming three pele towers . The video we filmed will appear here in due course. We  had a  problem parking at Kentmere ; eventually I blocked someone in and left Simon in the car while I filmed the Hall and dashed back.

After filming Kentmere Hall , we went to the Eagle and Child Inn in Staveley for lunch


In the afternoon, we filmed at  Ubarrow Pele and Killington Hall before  returning to the Travelodge. We had tea at Burger King there.

On  Sunday, we went to Mass in Bolton-le-Sands then drove to Kendal to meet our friend Philip who's just bought a house there. We had a brew at his house before setting off on a walk to Scout Scar.

After a  steep pull out of the town we went through Serpentine Woods.


The view over the town was tremendous/


We soon crossed over the A590.


We  reached  the  tremendous  escarpment  of  Scout Scar.

This  is  the  view  over  the  Lyth Valley.


Conscious of  the  daylight, we took  a  shortcut  route  on  the  way  back. This crossed an old  racecourse with  the  Howgills  in  the  background.


We  parted with Philip in  the  streets  of  Kenfdal then  went  to  Low  Sizergh  Barn  for  tea  and  cakes. Then we went  home.

 Having  got  the  bit  between  his  teeth, Simon  wanted to finish  the  towpath  with  the  final  section  into  Sowerby  Bridge.. This  was  a  direct  repeat  of  a  trip  from  the  classic  era  in  January 1980.  We  drove  to  Hebden Bridge, stopping  at  Nutty's  Butty's  along  the  way. 287 Friday3rd to Sunday 5th October 2025 Runcorn weekend

 For  our  next weekend away, we chose the Campanile Hotel, Runcorn.  Warnings of a storm over the weekend overshadowed it. The  journey there was uneventful and we found the hotel without too much trouble. Simon had some chips and I had some ice cream in the restaurant before we turned in for the night.  In the morning the weather was pretty wild and we ran across to the main building for breakfast. After that we raced across to the station for a train to Chester. Ours was one of the few  trains still running. We  huddled in the waiting room until the last minute. By the time got to Chester, the weather had calmed down considerably and there were no delays to our train to Rhyl. We caught the bus to Rhuddlan but when we got to the castle it had been closed due to the weather conditions. this seemed like a disaster but I had noted the bus was going on to Denbigh. 289 Saturday 25th October 2025 Wigton and Trigs

 Julie had booked a weekend away at Green View Lodges, Welton  so I presented Simon with some  options  and he selected filming some nearby trigs. The footage will  appear here  in  due  course. We  went  into  Wigton  for  lunch at  La  Barista  restaurant. In the afternoon, we covered another  trig  and  also a  pele tower near Mealsgate.  The footage will  appear here in due course. We  returned to a  footpath near our first trig because I realised I'd left my walking pole there. I did manage to retrieve it. We went into Dalston to do some shopping before returning to the lodge.
