3. Saturday 15 February 2020 Bolton Museum


Simon  had  been  on  an  energetic  retreat  with  the  school  for  the  past  three  days  and  wasn't  feeling  like  anything  too  adventurous  this  week  so  he  chose  to  go  to  Bolton  once  more.

We  went  by  car  and  used  the  Topps  Way  car  park. We  went  to  X  Records  where  Simon  was  disappointed  to  find  the  record  he  wanted, a  vinyl  version of  Gorillaz'  Demon  Days   was  selling  for  £30.  We  moved  on  to  CEX   but  Simon  didn't  want  anything  second  hand.  We  then  decided  to  try  the  Market  Hall  but  went  to  Barclays  for  cash  first. They  were  giving  out  free  doughnuts  which  cheered  Simon  up  a  bit.

We  checked  out  a  place  in  the  market  hall  but  it  was  no  good  either. While  we  were  in  there, Mum  called  us  to  tell  me  the  Rochdale  game  was  off. We  then  went  in  the  Museum.
We  looked  at  the  mummy in   the  Egypt   section  and   some  of  the  stuffed  animals  then  headed  downstairs  to  the  aquarium. Simon  particularly  liked  the  friendly  sting-rays.






We  went  for  some  refreshments  at  Gregg's  then  headed  to  Asda  to  do  the  week's  shopping  where  we  bumped  into  Michelle, mother  of  Simon's  friend  Josh.

 Simon  wanted  to  bring  Josh  along  for  his  trip. The  weather looked  a  bit  iffy  so  I  suggested  we  visit  the  Urbis  National Football Museum  in  Manchester.  Julie  came  with  us  on  this  one, a  visit  to  our  friends  in  Selside  using  the  new  Dalesrail  service  providing  direct  trains  between Bromley Cross and  Horton-in-Ribblesdale  on  a  Saturday. I  noted  the  crackle  of  branches  as  the  train  went  through  the  little-used  section  between Clitheroe  and  Hellifield. We  noted  the  Fat  Controller at  Settle  station. 224 Saturday 29th June 2024 Huddersfield Narrow Canal ; Marsden to Huddersfield

 This  was  my  choice, the  conclusion  to  our  walk  along  the  towpath  of  the  Huddersfield  Narrow  Canal. Though  it  was  raining hard, it  was  forecast  to  clear  up later  in  the  day ( which  it  did ). We  drove  to  Todmorden  for  a  train  to  Mirfield  which  was  delayed.  At  Mirfield  we  found  that  our  next  train  had  been  cancelled so  we  were  stuck  in  the  town for an  hour.
