14 Saturday 2 May 2020 Beamer's Trail

My  choice  again  and  I  fancied  a  walk  around  Hoghton. I  found  a  leaflet  for  the  Beamer's  Trail  , a  6  mile  circular  from  Witton  Park, Blackburn  so  we  did  that.

Witton   Park's  car  park  was  closed  but  we  found  a  large  car  park  behind  some  houses  nearby.

Despite  the  closure  of  the  car  park, there  were  plenty  of  people  jogging  or  walking  their  dogs  in  the  park  although  none  of  the  facilities  were  open. We  climbed  up  through  a  wood   which  was  very  picturesque.

 Then  the  path  ran  through   a  field  of cattle  to  a   terrific  viewpoint  at  Yellow  Hills  . The  viewfinder  had  a  picture  of  Wainwright  and  I  remarked  to  Simon  that  there  was  nothing  better  than  cuddling  your  son  on  a  picture  of  your  hero. We  picked  out  Deepdale  and  ( just  about )  Blackpool  Tower.

Eventually  we  found  our  way  through  farming  country  to  Hoghton  Bottoms  where  we  had  to  walk  through  a  gathered  herd  of  cattle  at  an  old  farm.  We  then  had  to  take  the  ascending  path  to  Pleasington. We  had  a  last  stop  at  the  tables  outside  the  pub  then  took   the  easy  path  by  the  playing  fields  and  back  to  Witton  Park.

After  an  abortive  visit  to  the  hospital  looking  for  a  quality  takeaway,  we  settled  for  some  hot  chicken  from  Asda  after  doing  the  shopping.
