34 26 September 2020 Inchfield Moor
Simon was ill last week, hence no trip.
This week, it was my choice and I went with another Paul Hannon walk around Todmorden, visiting the high point of Trough Edge End on Inchfield Moor. Before starting the walk we visited Todmorden Market where Simon purchased an Eminem LP on vinyl.
We then parked up at Gauxholme and walked past the narrow house that has always fascinated Simon.
We then got started on the long climb up The Naze, enjoying the bird's eye view of Todmorden that quickly develops.
Near the top of the climb I realised I hadn't packed my caguole and it was going to be a chilly walk in just a T shirt. We then took the causeway across Inchfield Pasture then came across a Portaloo in a strange place then a bizarre plastic roadway across the moor which I'm guessing had something to do with the electricity pylons nearby.
Simon was a bit apprehensive about the cattle we were passing but none of them bothered us. We eventually made it through the old mine to the final slope up to Trough Edge End where a number of young trees have been planted. We had our snack stop there as someone has adapted a stretch of the old wall as a shelter.
We then walked along the boundary wall between Lancashire and West Yorkshire. At the stile which marked our departure point there was another strange sight where someone has tied an old radio/cassette player to the fence.
We then headed down the moor on a rough path only partially waymarked and intermittent. I put my foot in a hole and fell over but was unhurt. We got to easier ground beside a wall though I kept a close eye on a large bull nearby. Eventually we dropped down to the path through Gorpley Clough, a desperate scramble when I first walked it in 1981 but since repaired. At the bottom , we had a short rest in the car park where someone was smoking weed.
We were both feeling tired on the final stretch up to Watty Farm and then steeply down to Gauxholme though we enjoyed the view from above.
We went to The White Hart in Todmorden for something to eat then did the shopping at Asda Rawtenstall before returning home.
Another great account sorry you couldn't do one last week but this one makes up for it brill
