36 Friday 9 -Sunday 11 October 2020 Windermere
Mum came along on this one. After our experiences in York, we planned this one out in advance with three attractions and a meal pre-booked. We stayed in Windermere Youth Hostel, the first one from the old days that I've ever revisited.
We set off about 4.30pm after picking a prescription up and drove straight up the M6 to Kendal. We had our tea at the Sir Miles Thompson, the Wetherspoons pub, then bought a few odds and sods in Booths. we then drove by a roundabout route to Windermere during which we disturbed an owl. We arrived at Windermere YHA around 7.30pm. Julie was a bit unhappy we ha to share a bathroom with another family.
She was mollified by the fabulous view in the morning.
We had some bacon butties then had a wander around the grounds. Simon had a look inside another family's tent. We then drove down to Lakeside where we had a visit to the aquarium booked.
We particularly enjoyed seeing the otters, the mandarin ducks, the terrapins and the friendly rays.
We saw one of the engines on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite railway setting off.
We went for elevenses at the cafe then drove up the west shore to the Hawkshead ferry.
After crossing the lake on the ferry, we drove up to Brockhole National Park Centre. We had a barbecued burger for lunch then made our way to the jetty where we had a rowing boat booked. None of us had any rowing experience. Simon had a go but found it too difficult so I took over . I had no idea how to steer so we drifted the wrong side of the jetty. After we were rocked by the wake of a large motorboat, Julie had had enough and called for help and we were guided back to the jetty before our time. At least we had a go ! After nerves were calmed, Simon and I had a game of crazy golf which was a draw.
Fab u lous lolx
