45 Saturday 12 December 2020 Clitheroe

With heavy rain predicted for the Wigan area, I went for the bad weather option of Clitheroe. We went by train. Simon swa his friend Lily May on the opposite platform with her mum and a friend.
We first had a look round the Platform Gallery where I asked for directions to the Post Office. There I managed to send a parcel out. We then did a bit of shopping on the high street going in a bookshop and a record shop where we bought some CDs.
As it was nearing lunchtime, we looked around for some take-out options. There weren't that many. We eventually settled on Toasted sandwiches from Costa. The service wasn't that great. We ate our food out of the rain under the archway of a closed pub. There was a female Santa not attracting much custom in the car park. Simon had a word with her.
We then headed for the castle , the main purpose of our trip. We ate some more in the keep while it still rained.
Eventually, it eased off enough to allow the main purpose of our trip, filming a video for our "All The Castles" project. You can view it here. After a short visit to the playpark, we headed for the train.
Trainline.com told us the train was at 13.30 but in reality it was 13.21 and we just missed it. We had a look round Clitheroe market where we bought some Samosas and Polish cheesecake. Simon didn't much like his Samosa and I thought the cake was too sweet. Simon liked it though. We caught the next train back.

 Julie  came  with  us  on  this  one, a  visit  to  our  friends  in  Selside  using  the  new  Dalesrail  service  providing  direct  trains  between Bromley Cross and  Horton-in-Ribblesdale  on  a  Saturday. I  noted  the  crackle  of  branches  as  the  train  went  through  the  little-used  section  between Clitheroe  and  Hellifield. We  noted  the  Fat  Controller at  Settle  station. 224 Saturday 29th June 2024 Huddersfield Narrow Canal ; Marsden to Huddersfield

 This  was  my  choice, the  conclusion  to  our  walk  along  the  towpath  of  the  Huddersfield  Narrow  Canal. Though  it  was  raining hard, it  was  forecast  to  clear  up later  in  the  day ( which  it  did ). We  drove  to  Todmorden  for  a  train  to  Mirfield  which  was  delayed.  At  Mirfield  we  found  that  our  next  train  had  been  cancelled so  we  were  stuck  in  the  town for an  hour.
