92 Saturday 6 November 2021 Whitworth Park Gallery
This one was Simon's choice. I'd never been to this art gallery before. We caught the train to Manchester Oxford Rd then walked up past the University. We had a quick look round the park before going in.
I feared the worst in the first gallery where there was a lot of handwringing commentary on whether their benefactor , the industrialist Joseph Whitworth might have made militarily useful products and the exhibits reflected their dilemma.
I did enjoy seeing a Lowry close up.
Things got much worse with a gallery showing their more traditional works but this had to be contextualised with a contentious commentary about the so-called "White Psyche" and its effect on art.
It's saying something when an exhibition about infant mortality comes as the light relief.
Simon liked this little wall plaque.
I was relieved to leave the place. We walked back to Oxford Rd station calling at Five Guys for lunch then returned home.
