Simon was ill the previous weekend but was well enough to resume our travels. Molly joined us for this one despite the football element. The idea was to do a walk from Tandle Hill Country Park, grab some lunch and then go to the Oldham v Rochdale game at Boundary Park.
The weather was pretty awful when we arrived at Tandle Hill so we waited for the rain to ease off a bit which made things a bit time pressured. I had found a leaflet for the Thornham Lane Trail but began to doubt we could do all of it. Eventually, we decided to set off.
The rain soon eased off as we walked through the park.
We detoured to the monument at the top of the park.
It was extremely windy when we were out in the open but Simon and Molly enjoyed it,
The view was impressive despite the sullen skies.
We carried on along the trail passing the isolated Tandle Hill Tavern which I was pleased to see is still open.
Here we decided to do a shorter version of the trail and headed through the fields.
We stopped for a drink in a sheltered grove of trees to get out of the wind. We came to a farm where there didn't appear to be a way through the yard. I was reluctant to risk a difficult situation with Molly in tow so we retreated to a gate back into the park and by-passed the difficulty. We noted this memorial stone on our way back to the car.
The winter scenery was still impressive.
We moved on to Pizza Hut for lunch. Simon had a pepperoni while Molly and I went for the buffet.
We then parked up for the game. There was some confusion about where to go for our tickets which was indicative of the chaos at the club. We got in in time which was not necessarily a good thing because it was a terrible game, the worst kind of 0-0 bore only notable for a 10 minute break when an Oldham fan fell ill in the stand. No one explained what was going on though it may have been clearer to those at the other end of the stand.
Simon was annoyed with a tall guy stood in front of him.
After the game we went to Rochdale to do a bit of shopping at Asda.
Simon bought himself a DVD.
We then returned home.
