113 Sunday 10th April 2022 Hornby Castle
This was my choice - a visit to Hornby Castle on one of its Open Days so we could include it in our "All The Castles" feature.
It didn't get off to a good start. We looked up a Catholic church to go to in Galgate on the internet but it turned out to have closed some years ago ! We decided to move on to Hornby. Fortunately, there was an Arts and Craft exhibition in the village hall so we could kill some time before lunch. Simon had a go at handloom weaving at one of the stalls.
We returned to the Hornby Tea Rooms for lunch which was agreeable.
We lingered until it was time for the grounds of Hornby Castle to open. The video we filmed can be seen here.
Simon fretted a bit during the talk on the history of the castle which lasted over an hour but did pretty well not to get too distracted. We pottered around the grounds for a bit before calling it a day and returning home.
