123 Sunday 19 June 2022 Irwell Vale and Rawtenstall
I can't recall whether this switch to Sunday was down to illness, the weather or an appointnment on the Saturday. This walk followed on from the previous Sunday when I'd made a mess of making a video on the river Ogden so we needed to do some re-shooting. The video will appear here in due course.
We parked surreptitiously at the Holden Arms and re-traced our route from the previous week, filming some new footage from Snig Hole Park where we'd gone wrong. There was a good view of Musbury Tor looking back.
The filming didn't take as long as I expected and we arrived in Irwell Vale a bit too early for the tea room at the Methodist church as the service was still going on. We decided to hang around until they opened at 12.
At that time , a woman said good morning and unlocked the door. We waited a couple of minutes then she came out and re-locked the door. Then the penny dropped.
"Oh were you waiting ? We're not opening today, we've got no volunteers"
And with that, she got into her car with her husband and drove off. I thought "well there were two of you, how many does it need ? " but there was no one around to argue with.
So, unrefreshed, we continued along the Irwell Valley Way to Rawtenstall, sharing the route with some runners on an organised race. We also passed some horses.
We passed under the bridge carrying the A56 over the Irwell.
