140 Sunday 11 September 2022 Helmshore
This
was my choice. Simon wasn't feeling well
but I managed to coax him out
to do a short walk on the moors
above Helmshore.I put the walk together
from the OS West Pennine Moors map
but I'd done most of it before.
We
parked at The Helmshore Textile Museum
then walked alongside the river Ogden
for a short distance before starting
to climb. We soon had a great view of
Rawtenstall.
We
looked ahead to Alden Breaks, the highlight
of the walk.
This
is the view ahead to Great House
and Musbury Tor, also passed on the route.
A
rather lop-sided view of Alden Breaks.
We
had a snack stop at the head of
the valley.
This

This
is looking down the valley of Alden
Brook.
This is looking up at Musbury Tor.
Near to Great House, the Rossendale Way takes a sharp swing to the left. Here, I offered Simon the choice of a shorter route back as he wasn't feeling well. He took this option. This is looking back at Musbury Tor on our descent.
When
we got down to Helmshore, Simon expressed
regret at not taking the longer route. After the walk finished, we went to Holden Wood Antiques. We went in the tea room where I had a wonderful cake and then to the shop where I made a couple of useful purchaes.
