193 Saturday 28th October 2023 Darwen
This was an unambitious trip reflective of the fact I was still convalescent after eye surgery and didn't want to venture too far. The idea was to have lunch at one of Darwen's curry restaurants. I rang my friend Chris who lives there for a recommendation. We went there by train mid-morning.
Simon was very impressed by the view of Darwen Tower from the station.
Walking down the road from the station, we noted Darwen Heritage Centre , a volunteer-run operation and went in for a look around. One of the women volunteers was welcoming but by the time we'd been told the third time that we could buy a new bok about Darwen Tower we were very irritated.
We did like the picture of Arnside Tower.
Moving down to the town centre we noted the bird sculpture which I hadn't seen before.
We had a look around Darwen's record shop. I noted a Blancmange CD autographed by Neil Arthur. We then looked for a curry house open at lunchtimes but couldn't find one. We had to settle for lunch at Wetherspoon's instead. We then caught the train home.
