205 Friday 16th to Monday 19th February 2024 Welton weekend
This trip was decided for us as Julie had booked us in for another weekend at Green View Lodges. We drove up on the Friday stopping at Burton for something to eat.
On the Saturday morning we went out to see the goats in their adjacent paddock. They were friendly.
We then set off on a morning walk taking in Rose Castle where we planned to shoot a video. It was signposted from the road.
The video we shot can be seen here.
From the back of the property was a geat view to High Pike.
We appreciated this parade of snowdrops
We soon joined the Cumbria Way along the banks of the Caldew. Simon was impressed by this fallen tree.
The view back to the Castle was impressive.
The view forward was lovely too.
Snowdrops lined the banks as we progressed.
Some walkers coming the other way advised us on the best route back to Welton and their advice proved sound. We had lunch back at the lodge then drove to Thistlewood Tower . The video we filmed there will be uploaded here in due course. We then drove to Wigton for some supplies and had a brew and cake there.
It was now pouring down.
On the Sunday we drove to Mass on the outskirts of Carlisle then collected Julie and drove into the city centre to meet some friends off the train. We went to the Cathedral where we had lunch then looked around the building. After that we did a bit of shopping before heading to The Griffin for drinks. We saw our friends off at the station then returned to the lodge.
On the Monday we packed up then Simon and I did a short but very muddy walk to film some footage at Warnell Hall which is on the same video above. We then joined the M6 but came off at Shap where we hoped to have lunch but our preferred cafe was closed. We moved on to Kendal and the trusy Miles Thompson instead. WE then drove back home..
