207 Saturday 2nd March 2024 Cartwright Hall, Bradford
Simon had to photo some night time cityscapes for his GCSE photography so I suggested we went to Bradford for that and also visit Cartwright Hall Art Gallery. We went by train via Blackburn. It was nearly lunchtime when we arrived so Simon suggested we went into the Azuma, the Chinses buffet restaurant we'd visited on our last weekend in Bradford. After we finished in there , we went for a bus to the art gallery as it was raining heavily. A black couple were having a shouting match at the bus stops which was both amusing and a little unnerving.
We had a short walk from the bus stop to Lister Park in which the art gallery sits. This brought us near to a guy who was shouting to himself which was even more unnerving. We took a longer way round to avoid him.
We liked ths sculpture in the entrance hall.
There was a rather woke exhibition celebrating female "stars"
The mask encapsulates Simon's response to it.
Lowry obviously had fans on this side of the Pennines too.
It wouldn't be a museum visit without the customary shot of Simon taking a break.
This collage picture took our attention but I can't remember what it's supposed to be.
Unsurprisiingly, there was a gallery devoted to local boy David Hockney. More surprisingly, there weren't many of his paintings on show ; the display was more about his life, methods and early sketches. There was this one.
This was our favourite in the traditional gallery.
After we finished in the hall, we had a quick look at the boating lake which obviously wasn't open at that time of year.
We caught the bus back to the city centre and had a look round HMV. We then decided to have a look round the cathedral but it wasn't open. With time to kill before it was dark we went to Wetherspoons and had some chicken wings and chips, Despite loitering there a while , it still wasn't dark enough for photos so we decided to abandon Bradford and go back via Manchester , We got off the train at Victoria and Simon got the pictures he needed befre we went home.
