243 Saturday November 16th 2024 Burneside and Kendal

This  was  my  choice , to  visit  the  most  accessible  castle still  to  feature  on  our  playlist. We  caught  the  train  to  Burneside  via Blackburn and Preston. From  the  station, we  walked to Burneside  Hall. The  video we filmed can be seen  here  ( Branthwaite  Hall  was  from  another occasion).

After we'd finished  filming, we  went  for  some lunch. We  noted a  community food  bank near the bus stop with a less  than inspiring  range  of  items.

We  then walked up  the  main street  to  a  chip  shop.

We  had an excellent  lunch  there. It  was  just  about  warm  enough to eat  outside.

From  Burneside we  walked to  Kendal  alongside  the  river  Kent.

The  scenery  was  amazing.

When we got  to  Kendal we  headed  for  Kendal Museum.

I  was  interested  in  the  Wainwright  memorabilia.

There  were  a  lot  of  geological  specimens.

This  is  what  remains of a Viking  boat.

These  are  axe-heads  from  the  Stone  Age  "factory" at Pike o' Stickle

These  were  our  favourite pictures  from  the  art  gallery.

We  moved  on  to  the  Natural History  section which  was  in  a  separate  building and  largely  a  Victorian  collection  of  stuffed  animals.

After  coming  out  of  the  museum,  we  went  on  a  trawl of  second  hand  shops looking  for  cymbals  but  didn't  find any. We  then  went  for  tea  and  cake  at  a cafe.

We  had  a bit  of  a  wait  for a  train home  but  got  back in  the end.
