261 Sunday 30th March 2025 Hardcastle Crags
This was my choice, a short-ish circular walk at the top end of Hardcastle Crags. We drove there stopping off at Nutty's Butty's for our lunch. We parked at Clough Hole car park where I paid for 4 hours .
From the car park, we took the path dropping into the woods.
We took the steep path down the steps to Gibson Mill
We moved north up the valley, for some of the time accompanied by a Rambler's group from Liverpool.
Towards the end of the valley there's a steep path climbing out of it. We had to have a rest on the bench at the top.
Just beyond there we went to a reptile refuge I remebered from a previous walk but there was nothing to see underneath the metal. We moved on past Blake Dean to the valley of Alcomden Water, noting this fine gritstone crag on the other side.
We crossed the brook and picked up the farm track contouring the east side of the valley which commanded stunning views.
Eventually, we took a path down the hillside and back to Gibson MIll. Unfortunately the tea room had closed by the time we got there. We then walked up to the car park by a slightly different route and were just within our parking time. Then we drove home.
